This is a tough one, if only because people have different definitions of what they consider life-changing, and there's been so many things I've enjoyed. I will make an attempt, though!

Book

One would most definitely be the collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales we had in the house when I was a kid. Mom used to read to us from it before we could easily read it ourselves, and from it I learned to love fairy tales and folklore and just make a guess and move on if I didn't quite understand a word (the book used some old-fashioned language kid!me hadn't learned yet). From there it was natural that I'd move on to mythologies, fairy tales, and folklore from all over the world, and the '90's~early 2000's boom of fairly tale novelizations was a gift. To this day, fairy tale motifs are a way to ensure my interest in a story.

The books of Tamora Pierce were a big part of my late adolescence and early adulthood that I still enjoy reading--I needed to see girl characters being awesome and going after their dreams/making their own paths in life. Still do today.

This is probably obvious from my recs in past posts, but:

I am a sucker for fluff and WAFF-y things (witness the holiday-themed drabbles). Whether friendly or romantic, it doesn't matter, I like fic that leaves me with warm fuzzies.

I also love getting peeks at authors' headcanons while reading fic. Some of my favorite things tend to be canon AU/divergences/retellings from another perspective, so it's always fun seeing how people fill in the gaps. Extra points if the author branch out from the generally accepted fanon in their interpretation.

I do also like crossovers/fusions. Having had fun talking with friends about which Hogwart's Houses certain characters would be in, or who their godly parent/ancestor would be if they were at Camp Half-Blood or Camp Jupiter, it's also fun seeing other authors' ideas on the same.

When it comes to shippyfic, I'm very un-kinky. I'm not too fond of things that get too stereotypical-romance uber-saccharine, but then again fics that focus mostly on sex aren't quite my thing, either, anymore. :/ It probably says a lot about me that my taste in pro romance novels leans more towards Jane Austen than the Bronte sisters or more modern romance authors.

Okay, this is going to be a mix of more recent work plus things written anywhere from 7-10 years ago (looooong dry spell, though RP did keep me writing for a few of those years.) All drabbles and short ficlets. Starting with some of the more recent stuff--all are fluffy, though, be forewarned of incoming sap. Lots of holiday stuff.

Yuuri on Ice

A Working Vacation: Viktor and Yuuri just skating and having fun; relaxing while still keeping in shape.

Sharing Christmas, Mixing Cultures: Russia and Japan celebrating Christmas on different days means Yuuri and Viktor have some discussing to do.

Candlelight: Viktor, Yuuri, and Christmas decorations.

Kingdom Hearts

Christmas Warmth and Children at Heart: I like putting these two together and juxtaposing them since they both focus on a vist to Christmas Town and Riku and Kairi realizing Santa is real. Different POV's though--the first is Riku's, the second is Kairi's. Also, the latter was written before some major additions to canon, so doesn't include certain characters I include in the first one.

Putting the Pieces Together: Namine, Organization XIII, and Castle Oblivion and it's aftermath. One of the better drabbles I wrote for the kh_drabble comm; won me the challenge that week. X3

Once Upon a Time: Not the most original title for the fairy tale challenge in KH drabble, but I enjoyed writing this one and it's also the best one I think I wrote for that comm. Also won me the challenge that week. :3

Other

It's Own Reward:Gargoyles/Labyrinth crossover, Jareth and Puck interaction. I would never have thought of this had I not seen the prompt in the challenge comm, but once I saw it I snapped it up and had so much fun writing this.

In Which Howl Contemplates Happily Ever After: I love both the book and the movie, so I had to snap up this prompt when I saw it in the challenge comm. It didn't write itself easily, and I was worried about how it would be received, but everything turned out fine, thank goodness.

Snowflake Challenge Day 8

This will always be my favorite scene in Tangled.

First, it has one of my favorite instrumental pieces of music ever, "Kingdom Dance", playing in the background. I love how that song seems so authentic for the era the movie seems to be set in--it sounds like the songs I used to dance to with the other SCA folks and I used to practice Middle Ages-style dance.

Second, there is so much going on in the montage. You see Rapunzel and Flynn/Eugene's whole day in Corona in just a few minutes, and it does give the overall impression of a very busy, fun day. They get Rapunzel's hair fixed up, see the town, and Punz starts an impromptu dance all while dodging guards (well, Eugene's dodging guards). It manages to show this while also giving the hints that maybe our two's liking for each other isn't strictly friendly.

Finally, it's Tangled. While I enjoy most Disney movies, this is high up there on my list of favorites, especially among the fairy tale-based ones (which are usually my favorite Disney flicks, anyway).

I know a lot of people favor "I See the Light" if we're talking about songs/scenes from this movie, but for me, this one takes the cake.

(If we're talking about the movie my icon is from, I do agree with those who say the iconic ballroom scene is their favorite. I just wanted to give another movie a little love.)

Since I haven't written fic or done art in a while, this was difficult. That said, Theoi is a great site for anyone in the Percy Jackson fandom, or anyone who just wants to know more about the gods/work them into a fic somehow.

For anyone dabbling in folklore or wanting to write a fairy tale AU, may I recommend Folklinks or Folktexts?

--Self, my wish for you is that you actually sit down, take some of those plunnies out of the hutch, and write them.

Yuuri!!! on Ice

This Curious Condition Called Love: I am so here for fic that addresses Yuuri adjusting to Russia, and and this one is so good. <3 Bonus for also addressing Viktor's adjustment to being back home after being away for so long and changing so much.

Katsudon: Hiroko POV! I love Yuuri's family and am always happy to see them getting more love in fic. This one is especially poignant since it's essentially Hiroko-mama's thoughts on her baby boy growing up.

Life, Love, and Language: This one is a series, all about Viktor's and Yuuri's language learning adventures/misadventures. Featured: Yuuri doing a Godzilla impression in the first story.

in the spaces between: So I guess by now it's obvious that I'm very weak to the multicultural and multilingual aspect of the cast of this show and all the possibilities that provides. Plus, you know Yurio would be offended if anyone else dared teach Yuuri Russian swears, and Viktor would have fun thinking of all sorts of nicknames to test out his vocabulary.

Yuri Plisetsky Has Two Dads: This one just makes me laugh and I do adore the fanon of Viktor and Yuuri playing "dad"/big bro for Yurio. Just a fun look at their dynamic

Kingdom Hearts

Why the Sun Sets Red: A what-if fic that wonders how the 358/2 storyline would have changed if a Vexen had been the sole survivor at Castle Oblivion. Excellent writing, makes me wibble just as much as the original game did.

At the Core of Being: I wanted some Inside Out in my KH and this author delivered. Great blend of both.

Affecting Eternity: The only "what if Riku teaches Kairi and Lea how to use their Keyblades?" fic I need.

(i don't need you to) Worry for Me: Amazing AU that asks what might have happened if Vanitas had dared to try to find Ventus not long after they were separated.

Dream, Drop, Don't Leave Me Behind: Someone took the "what if Kairi had been there for the Mark of Mastery exam" idea and ran with it. XD Really like this one.

Other

boy with a scar: Amazing series of "what if" HP rewrites. Some of these I enjoy more than the actual canon.

we must unite inside her walls or we'll crumble from within. Amazing fic focused on the women of HP's supporting cast.

One by One: Continuation of the Undertale true ending, in which Sans and Frisk rescue one more soul.

Guardian Tadashi AU: I would never have thought to crossover Big Hero Six and Rise of the Guardians, but this is it done so well.

Life After Narnia: Excellent series about what things might have been like for Susan after the train wreck.

i was found and now i don't roam these streets: You will pry my headcanon AU where Civil War did not happen and instead the Avengers found Bucky and helped him from my cold dead hands.

There are so many!

--calling up one of my best friends to gush over the latest episode of Ronin Warriors as soon as it had finished (making my brother wonder why I was on the phone at 9:30 AM when it was summer vacation).

--Making up self insert characters (because that's what they were, let's be real) and making up stories where they had adventures with the characters of whatever I and two of my friends were enjoying at the moment (somewhat different shows for different friends)

--Taking long walks with one of said friends as we spun our characters' stories.

--Otakon 2003

--Valentine's day 2009: singles' day with plenty of chocolate and movies with lots of bishounen

--RPing from 2011-2014. Made so many new fandom friends. <3
